Like many others who read and comment on this blog I received this email from Elonex earlier today (a couple of days after mine was due):
This email contains important information about your order.
Thank you for completing your order and upgrading to the Elonex ONEt.
Demand for the ONEt free upgrade and accessories has exceeded our estimations, with the majority of customers ordering a range of accessories, including the indispensible wristVAULTs. As a result we are experiencing a delay on deliveries. The official launch of the ONEt is 1st September however Pre-orders, of which you are one, will receive their order in the last week of August, ahead of this product launch.
We sincerely apologise for this delay and for any inconvenience caused. We would therefore like to offer you the following options:
• Continue with your order as it currently is (no action is required by you)
• We are able to temporarily refund your order and re process the payment when your order is dispatched (please call 0870 240 1060)
• If you would like to cancel your order (please call 0870 240 1060 or email us here)
Please accept our sincerest apologies, your order is of the utmost importance to us and we are putting every effort into speeding up all deliveries.
Best Regards
Elonex
I think that it would be fair to say that Elonex seem to be having genuine difficulties and are also taking note about the criticism regarding debiting for the cost of the laptops before they are dispatched. My Asus eeePC took ages to turn up (probably for the same reasons – massive demand, plus manufacturing prolongment?) – but I think that where Asus did not commit to when orders would be fulfilled, Elonex have done, and been tripped up a little.
I’m just glad that this is a surprise for my kids and they’re not constantly asking when it will arrive!

Funny, The day after I get the above email, Maplin send me a flyer for a ‘miniBook’ Ultra Portable.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=225532&C=Newsletter&U=08P09-1&T=-11225870
Includes 2 pdfs including a user manual. Woohoo.
I got an email today, my elonex is in the post, will let you know when I get it
Thats good news bricwood. When did you pay? Mine was processed 9th July.
my one is 10th of July will keep you posted when it comes, the e mail says elonex one but I claimed the free upgrade, hope its ok
my elonex is here, black instead of silver, only the one, not an upgrade, wifi working but cant get online, tried ethernet, all apparently working but cant browse or email, cant find any settings to change, all in all not good, you definitely need to use a mouse or go insane, only £100 but not pleased , its not as good as my very old toshiba that came with windows 95, I am no mug used linux a long time, something is wrong with it
after reboot Ethernet working, wifi up but cant get out to internet, I read somewhere that the mini notebooks in maplins only work on some wifi connections, I am using a bt home hub , linux normally works fine
read this, same here http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlwspJN80JX6k_GX1eYRXq5JBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20080801062632AAffojV
tested it all day, its dire, takes 2 or 3 minutes to load a web page, thats a 8 mg Ethernet connection still no wifi, its like going back 12 years and using dile up, its crap
Mine was paid for on the 9th, but I’ve been delayed until the end of the month, like many others. I chose the free upgrade to the OneT and have ordered two units; one black and one white.
I’ll report when I receive mine and let you know how I get on with their configuration.
Bricwood – I’m assuming you received the One and not the OneT, is that correct?
The eagle has landed, or at least my ElonexOne+ has arrived.
Ordered back when it was announced, delayed for a few days due to no cases being available and now it has arrived.
Turned it on, appears to come with full battery. Configured wireless to connect but no luck, still trying. Got a high score on Galaga but then again, it is the first play.
Keyboard reminds me of my ZX Spectrum although it was a bit more responsive. Can’t touch type on this yet, maybe just need to press the keys a little harder.
Never used Linux to any extent before so still trying to configure wireless. Any clues, or should I break out the manual?

Quick reply to my own post.
Got wireless configured by setting static IP address.
Now online.
in answer yes I got the one and not the one t, in fact I gave up the ghost and bought a eeepc and its fabulous, you even get a drivers disc if you choose to install xp, I had another try with the one 10 minutes ago its so slow I grew a beard, to put this in perspective I have a motorola phone that works on wifi, reads emails , browses the intenet and its the size of a matchbox, there is no excuse, the one is rubbish, I bought a full size elonex pc a few years back it was fine but the one is the most rubbish gadget you can waste your money on, better off buy an old laptop and install linux, what about the poor kids that get one for school!!
Took the free upgrade to a One T+ and been waiting ever since. Received the 5 Aug email. Just phoned them to inquire. Was told that the machines had just been delivered to Elonex yesterday and were currently being checked in/over, and I should have mine by the end of next week.
Here’s hoping…
I also handed over my money for two One T and then upgraded to a One T+. Promised it would be delivered end August – still waiting. If it doesn’t turn up this week then I have no choice but to cancel my order. It would be interesting to know if any else has received their order.
Well, its the end of next week, and guess what – no One T+ yet. However, I do see elsewhere that people are starting to receive them so maybe mines slightly further down the pile waiting to be sent than they thought.
Mine arrived yesterday. Set it to charge for the recomended 8 hours then played a little. Couldn’t get it to connect to my BT Home hub – and it doesn’t see any of my neighbours wireless networks.
Took it out with me today and its dead.
Have just plugged it in to the mains on return but it’s still dead.
Not happy.
Will leave it charging and then try again.
